Mike Asimos New Kitchen Updates

We’ve been working hard lately and finished up a new kitchen project.  I’m including some of the photos of the project below.  We’ve spent several weeks on the project and excited to wrap up this project.  It was a complicated construction project and was a whole kitchen replacement.  We did the floors, walls, and countertops to name a few of the elements of the construction project.

We went through several revisions on the project plans.  The customer made a few changes mid project that set us back on the painting and countertops.  We were happy to make the changes for the customer, however, at the end of the day we want the customer to be happy and satisfied.  We are a business of referrals and that is how we find most of our construction projects.

We did a lot for the project below.  First, the green paint was the customers decision.  He was very passionate about it and may have had some influence from his wife.  We are here to make the dreams come true and provide options – not to give our opinion on colors.  That is the customer choice.  We used a white tile backsplash around the sink wall and white for the cabinets.  The floor was rotten so we had to replace some wood underneath.  We add hardwood flooring and it’s all nice and level now.  They have several dogs in the household so they were extremely excited to have the ability to easily sweep or vacuum the pet hair.

We replace the lighting to their choosing and added some throw pillows and decorations so we could get you this lovely photograph of the final kitchen project completed.  Enjoy!  You can view more of our Mike Asimos Contruction Projects here.

The Things I Like About Hiking

If you can’t tell, I love the outdoors. There is something about the nature and cool air that just gets me going. I was always outdoors growing up as well and that probably has something to do with it. Doesn’t matter if my neighbor friends came over or I went to their houses, we were always in the woods or the front yard playing. I think we all are products of our environment. Growing up doing certain things, activities, or being around certainly type of people does rub off on you as well. A piece of that becomes who you are. My Father was a big hiker and traveler. He travelled most of the World and always expressed to me how important it is. Sitting inside watch TV is not something you want to be remembered as or will even care about when you dead. Traveling, hiking, experiencing cultures, and meeting new people is the important stuff. Looking back at it now, I pretty much agree with him. I would only add that family is very important as well so you have to make sure you’re balancing that element in your life as well. There is something about Hiking for me, however, that I just love. It’s something internal and it’s hard to express in words. I guess just sitting on the side of cliff overlooking the World makes you think about life. It makes you question it and constantly reminds you that you only live once. It reminds you that you’re just a small piece of this planet and at the end of the day – this is it so enjoy it. You’re also reminded that the World will continue to run when you’re gone. Life will continue to happen and move forward whether you’re here or not. Depending the view or where you are, it really can be breath taking. It can be an emotional experience and constant remember that life will eventually pass you by.

There is no time to be angry or depressed about life. We all are blessed to live one day in this amazing World so make sure you’re doing everything possible. I know that I want to make sure my kids and family experience that. That good thing about all this is that you don’t have to say a word or try to even explain it. If you go and do it, you’ll get what I expressed naturally just by doing it. The feeling is in us all and just comes out when you experience a great location of view.

Another thing I like about hiking is that you get to see the World. You get to see the back roads and trails that very few have seen. In some cases you maybe the only person who has ever been there and that is something only you get to share.

When it’s all said and done, I don’t want to regret anything on my death bed. I want to look back and remember that I did some amazing things, been to great places, met cool people, and lived my life to the fullest. I can only hope my children understand this and one day will make their own journeys into more hiking and travelling.

Exciting News About My Job

I have some exciting news about my Job. Recently, I did a review with my Manager and he was really impressed with my hard work for the company. He liked the new operations I suggested and even implemented some of them. In my opinion, they are working great and a success (He agreed as well). So with that being said, I’m in a position to move up and make more money now. As you know, however, with moving up you are giving more responsibilities and duties. I will also get to manage a few new hires so that is exciting as well. It’s something else I can use to move up and add to my resume for future reference. Just wanted to share the news with everyone who reads the blog and keep everyone updated.

This does mean more hours but also more money which is going to help our family out. We have a few mouths to pay around here so it’s going to help us greatly.

Our Family Thanksgiving Dinner

Our family is so blessed in so many ways. Last night we finished Thanksgiving dinner and it was a huge success. My Wife worked so hard to get dinner together for the family. I’m so proud of her. We have so much leftovers and we gave much of it away. Our house was filled with cousins, aunts, and long lost uncles I haven’t seen in many years.

One of the traditions we do in the Mike Asimos family is board games after dinner. This year it was monopoly. For me personally, I remember growing up with the board game tradition and it’s one of my fondest memories. I guess every family has something. I was talking to an old friend about traditions and one of the things there family did was hide a small pickle in the Christmas tree. Then they would do a search and the person who finds it gets an extra present. It’s not something you really think about but those are the most fun and most rememberable things growing up. We had the board game tradition but that was about it. My parents would also drop some fruit in the stocking (like a small orange). I guess that is not a normal tradition from the people I’ve asked.

Anyway just wanted to share our experience this year and how great it was with the family. Our family is so blessed to have so many great people in our lives. The Wife’s family and friends were all a pleasure to have over. Looking forward to Christmas next.

Cross Country Trip Schedule

I have been working extremely hard lately but wanted to share by cross country road trip schedule with you. We are planning on getting an RV and travel for several months. We’ve saved up our money and continue to do so. I didn’t realize renting an RV would be so expensive but it certainly is. My wife enjoys travelling so she will be going on this trip. We are visiting some family in TX in March so we’re going to start our from there. The route may change but we’re planning on travelling to Oklahoma, Tennessee, then Georgia, and if time we stop just over the state boarder of Florida. What we typically do is visit all the main parks then if time we’ll Google many of historic landmarks in that specific area. That way when the trip if over we actually say we’ve been to many of the landmarks of the state. As compared to just saying we walked around the town and ate at a burger joint. On the topic of good burgers, I’m always on the search for the best one. I’m starting to think that there isn’t a perfect burger though and the search will always be just that – a continued search.

I’m very excited about our family trip. I think these are the things you remember growing up with your family. I know when I was growing up my Father and Mother would always do road trips. Even though I wasn’t a big fan back then, those are the memories that I cherish the most now. I remember packing our goods up in the cooler and my Father figuring our the right path to travel while avoiding all the snow on the road. We had a big uncomfortable truck (hurt after a while) but it’s one of the most cherished memories of my Father now.

Our trip will be much more comfortable then the truck we used to have. In fact, we’ll be sleeping on it so it must be that way. We have several big coolers which we’ll use for our food and water along the way. We’ve budgeted in some Denny Restaurants along the way for breakfast and to just break up the usual eating.

Thanksgiving Festivities & Life

It’s almost the end of the year and it sure has been an busy one. We’ve been through moving, cleaning out a very messy garage, family issues, construction projects, and now a planning a housewarming party in Feb 2015. I feel really got a lot accomplished this year. With Thanksgiving and Christmas just around the corner I’m sure we are going to end it with big bang. Mrs. Asimos is really excited for the holidays. Growing up she and her family really went over board for the holidays. My family growing up was really poor and very large so presents just didn’t have the same value as her. I know the importance of the holidays and I really try to go as big as we can because I know the kids really enjoy this time of year. I always try to keep them centered about life though and make sure that I always teach them the importance of the holidays (family first). It’s about family time because at the end of the day that is all we have. Physical things are nice only temporarily and family/loved ones is what life is about.

After we get through Thanksgiving, we’ll make plans to visit my Mother (out of state). I really miss not having her locally but we make sure to visit several times a year. We also talk about once a week. It’s very important to me to visit her and reconnect. The visit consist of lots of food and lots of pictures. She is just starting to use the Internet so every once in a while I will get a random email from her.

Our younger one is preparing his Xmas list to send to Santa right now. He’s been working on it for about a week now in preparation. I think he mentioned an Xbox One or a new Iphone 6. Kids are so spoiled these days and a lot of it probably has to do with his peers at school. None the less, I’m sure Santa will be able to take care of one of those items at his toy building center.

For me, I would like a CD of some jazz or soul. Maybe a box of chocolates if Santa thinks I’ve been good enough this year.

Happy Holidays From the Mike Asimos Family

Housewarming Party Mike Asimos House

Mike Asimos Family Housewarming Party

We are throwing a housewarming party in Feb 2015 and would like to invite all our friends. You probably received an invite in the mail already but here is our gift registry for the party. Feel free to bring your items for the party (plates, chairs, food, cups) or just purchase one from our list at Crate and Barrel to make it easy.

Since we moved here we’ve been wanting to have all our friends over to catch-up on old times and re-connect. We are planning on music, dancing, and lots of board games. We are going to have a lot of food and I mean a lot so make sure you come over ready to eat (and take some home). It’s a big investment for us at the Mike Asimos house (hey we’re not rich) but we really want to make this successful and a great time.

To make a real success, we do need your help though and that means either bringing something, volunteering with the setup/cleanup, or anything else you can provide. If everyone just participates in some fashion, this housewarming party will be amazing for all of us. We appreciate all our friends and family and really look forward to seeing everyone in Feb 2015.

Mike Asimos Travel Updates For Next Year

As you all know, I am big fan of travelling. I’ve been all over the World and I’ve already started planning my next trip. For this next year I’m going to go to Asia. I’ve been to a few countries over there but this year I want to hit as many as I can. I’m thinking this trip is going to take me a month. I’m not rich or anything so my plan is to just get over there and bounce around in hostels. In Asia hostels are everywhere and incredibly cheap. This may not sound like a lot of fun to people but for me to really experience a location for a long time (like a month) it has to be this way. The only thing I hate about Asia is the heat. It’s not humid like Florida – in Asia it’s on another level of humidity. You simply haven’t experienced true humidity like it is in Asia. I love the transportation. Everything is so better connected than it is in America. It also super cheap to travel around from country to country or city to city. The food is way fresher than the USA. In fact, you don’t really have food in the house. You eat and buy your food when you’re hungry. There is no need to keep anything because when you’re hungry again, you just go to the street and buy something fresh and ready. I wish we have better street food/vendors in the USA. When I came home from Asia last time, the food is something I really missed. The freshness and it being available anytime is magical. It’s also all natural no chemicals or other preservatives are added. The seafood is caught that morning and ready to be eaten.

I mentioned the hostels and I’ve mapped out in my plan. I will start in Singapore then travel up from there into Thailand, Vietnam, and lastly Cambodia. All of these locations offer lots of hostels for cheap and food along the way as well. Trains and buses are easy to grab when needed and are affordable. One great thing about all these places is that the dollar can get you far.

For this trip the wife and kids will be home so it will be just me this time. I’m excite and will keep you all updated with lots of photos of the trip.

Winter Time Is Here

It’s officially cold and winder time now. We typically keep the head off all summer just because it’s not needed but the last few days I have been questioning myself about finally caving in and officially turning it on. I know… but there is a small part of me that wants to keep every penny I earn instead of giving it away to the heating company.

We’ve been working on the yard to get in all ready for the winter. We clipped the trees and cleaned up a lot of leaves which have already fallen now. Our kids hate working in the yard but that is part of life in the Asimos house. We also arranged the garage to make sure everything is order. Our Halloween decorations are out and Thanksgiving decorations are standing by and ready to go after this weekend. For Halloween, we will be staying home this year and celebrating. The kids will go out briefly to grad as much candy as possible then the wife and myself will try to relax a little.

Work as been really stressful for both of us lately but overall the family is doing well.

Mike Asimos out.

Mike Asimos in Los Angeles

Just got back from a trip to Los Angeles. I stayed for a few weeks and took my daughter as well. It was a good Dad and Daughter weekend and we both had a blast. On one weekend we went to Disney Land. She is a little older now 12 but still had a fun day at the park. We took a lot of photos this time many of which I will upload later to my blog. Hard to say this but my little girl is getting all grown up. I remember when she was such a little girl and now she is getting so independent. It’s hard to watch as a Father.

I do love Los Angeles. From the people to all the Hollywood attractions it can be really fun. We even did the bus tour on this trip and drove by many of the celebrity homes. At home point in my life I considered living here even. I’ve noticed how all the home prices just continue to rise so even living here would be incredibly difficult. I know that our family budget sure wouldn’t work considering their rent and home ownership costs. We pay about 75% less where we live right now.

I found the people in LA to be fairly easy to talk to also. We’re all strangers in this World but meeting and listen to new people is always something I’ve enjoyed doing. We all are at different stages in our lives so I get curious talking to others and listen to them. Doesn’t matter if they are happy, sad, or even angry at life. I’ve found that everyone seems to be in a hurry in LA to get nowhere. Sure they have jobs, but most are just moving fast to do or get no where important. Life is way to short to be hustling all the time in my opinion.

I heard the news Robin Williams passed away and that was really sad. I remember growing up and watching all his movies and TV shows. He was a true talent that the World will surely miss.

Until next time – Mike Asimos is out!
